Taking an FY3 year is a great opportunity to explore the different career options open to you yet still earn money doing what you love!
We recently spoke to Dr Rashid El-Sehili, who is taking an FY3 year out as a locum, when he finishes his foundation training in August. Read on for his thoughts, insights, and his hopes for his future career.
Hi Dr Rashid! Where do you currently work?
I currently work at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and I’ll be staying in the surrounding area at another hospital nearby for my FY3.
What is your motivation for training as a Doctor?
My motivation for training is to progress with my career and become specialised in something that I really enjoy, so I can deliver the best possible medical care to my patients.
What made you think about taking an FY3 year?
The flexibility! I wanted a more flexible rota and taking an FY3 is the ideal opportunity to work yet still have the flexibility for other things such as more time to study. Then after my FY3, I’ll be ready to take up a training post.
What does a typical day look like for you at the moment?
I’m currently working in Acute Medicine, but I have been rotating in various different wards such as Gastroenterology and Stroke, which has been a great experience. I’m also really looking forward to exploring the different specialties during my FY3, especially because I can really enjoy experiencing them without the need to commit to any specialty straightaway.
How was your experience registering with ID Medical?
My colleague initially recommended ID Medical and referred me, and from the start, the experience was positive.
The process has been so smooth! I was pleasantly surprised as to how straightforward everything was, and I’m sure that is because of the way ID Medical ensures they have a good process in place. I had a lot of documentation that needing sorting, but the team at IDM helped me every step of the way, and I felt guided and supported throughout.
It was definitely a very positive experience!
Who is your Recruitment Consultant? Would you recommend them?
My Recruitment Consultant is Paul Hull and he has been… amazing! He is always so helpful, always contactable and so reassuring!
I’d definitely recommend him!
Are you still happy with your decision to take an FY3?
Absolutely! I can’t wait to start my FY3 and I’m really looking forward to the coming year!
We’d like to thank Rashid for his time and wish him all the best for the future… and we also look forward to helping him with his career aspirations whenever he needs us!
